“Am I My Brother’s Keeper?”…a Message from our State Rep.

Stuart , FL – On Thursday, September 17, 2009, a group of local, Christian business leaders were afforded a thought provoking message on Constitution Day by State Representative William “Will” Snyder (R.). Snyder continued his presentation from October 2008, and began by sharing with the group a coin that he carries with him to the floor of the Florida House of Representatives, that features the “Prayer of Jabez.” Where he is reminded daily, “….cause no pain.” Additionally, Snyder shared with the group some of his observations in Tallahassee as a politician, and practicing Christian (not those that we might see on MSNBC, FOX News, or CNN). Snyder’s candidly shared his opinions, and presented a challenge to the group that was not an exercise in rhetoric, but revealed a pattern of our State and Country’s problem resolution, asking the group, “What happened to citizens solving our own problems?” The founding ideals of our country were based upon the New England Township models that provided clear directions, and accountability on a very local level have somehow “missed the mark” in contemporary leadership. Although current media might portray a different view, not all citizens share in the “entitlement mentality,” and do indeed recognize that we each are indeed “our brother’s keeper,” and that we should look out for one another on a local level. The Christian Business Fellowship of Martin County deeply appreciates the time that State Representative “Will” William Snyder (R) had taken from his busy schedule to speak with the group, and looks forward to his return once again in 2010, in the meantime; their prayers and support go with him as he will soon begin session in the Florida House, it is indeed encouraging that a man of integrity, and clear priorities is representing our District in Tallahassee.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Please do not miss the next very special Christian Business Fellowship of Martin County Luncheon on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at 11:30am in the Elliott Room of the Ramada Inn on U.S. Hwy One in Stuart. Chinese Drywall Solution - Town Hall Meeting!

PORT ST.LUCIE, FL – On Thursday, September 3, 2009, at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center, 9221 S.E. Civic Center Place, Port St. Lucie, FL . (772-807-4488), at 7:00 p.m., Alfred Miller, III has organized a Town Hall Meeting to present a new Chinese Drywall solution to South Florida residents. Miller, a Florida native, felt compelled to find a remedy for thousands of home owners facing the daunting task of resolving the “Chinese Drywall issue.” After prompting by local home owners, and sensing that the problem is not only affecting individual home owners; but entire counties, (since taxes are being based on property value assessments) Miller has indeed found an option that bears serious consideration.

Hence, the AbShield™ L.L.L.P., Southeast Division has generously offered to present a “Town Hall” meeting to address questions, concerns, and dispel myths for area residents. The group will discuss, the AbCoat™ System Advantage - Molecular Remediation Process©

AbShield™, colleagues, research and development teams have been reviewing reports of odorous drywall first issued in the last quarter 2006, when the suspect products first surfaced. They continued to follow and track the issue from the point in time when reports of allegedly defective Chinese gypsum board products skyrocketed in the media during the last quarter of 2008, to the present. Their review of the issues is perpetual and will remain uninterrupted as they pave the way to feasible resolution. The need to address the issue with less-destructive measures was immediately recognized by AbShield™. The “let's use science instead of hammers,"© philosophy was, and continues to be the motivation driving the company's concepts. This viewpoint is the pilot for their mission statement and resolution methodology.

Company Mission Statement
The mission is to provide a more proactive and less-destructive solution to address the reported problem, whereas the affected buildings would not have to be gutted, removing interior finishes, fixtures and ultimately the board products; thus, maintaining the integrity of the interior elements, acceptable air quality and in the end improving the acidic environment affecting mechanical system function ability.

Company Resolution Methodology
The need to address the issue at the gypsum board, in lieu of treatments that may only address the atmospheric conditions, was recognized. The AbCoat™ system addresses the board surfaces on both sides, including the concealed spaces at interior wall locations and floor ceiling assemblies.

The method proposed to neutralize the result of residual off-gassing involves the application of absorbent materials in the form of activated organic powders and coatings (solids). The engineered coating system developed to accomplish this task includes the AbCoat™ SI-201 and AbCoat™ GS-504 products.

“Salt Sprinkled Lightly” a Message to Christian Leaders in troubled times!

Stuart , FL – On Thursday, July 16, 2009, a group of local, Christian business leaders were afforded a thought provoking message by Sue Chess, the Executive Director of CareNet Pregnancy Services of the Treasure Coast. Chess challenged and encouraged members of the Christian Business Fellowship of Martin County with a reminder that in these troubled times, many Christian professionals are to be an example to others. In her message, “Salt Sprinkled Lightly” Chess explains, “that it is a Christian covenant of the “religiously preoccupied” professional that each should encourage others in a fashion where their words and actions should be “full of grace, seasoned with salt” (Col. 4:6). Just as a measure of salt is necessary for human survival, too much is toxic. This connotation is a gentle reminder of our obligations to the general public.

To find out more about CareNet and their upcoming Banquet and call for Church Liaisons at the Civic Center in Port St. Lucie on September 25, 2009, and the Care Net Ministry, please visit, or call: www.carenettc.com - Care Net (two locations) - 8432 S. Ava Pennington presents, “If its my time why can’t I find it?”…..another educational opportunity!

Stuart , FL – On Thursday, April 16, 2009, a group of local business men and women were afforded another rare treat. The group enjoyed a motivational, inspirational, and thought-provoking message, “If it’s my time, why can’t I find it?” by Ava Pennington, contributing author to over 11 Chicken Soup for the Soul and other anthologies.

Armed with a BS in Management and an MBA in Executive Management, both from St. John’s University, Pennington embarked on a career in the corporate financial services world. She worked as a Human Resources Director for several international firms, but the corporate world wasn’t enough. The more she studied God’s Word, the more she wanted to teach and share what she had learned. Pennington has received an Adult Bible Studies Certificate from Moody Bible Institute, and her small group ministry grew into a teaching ministry. In addition to leading Bible studies at church, she also teaches a weekly interdenominational Bible class of 150 women from more than 40 different churches, and is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW). For more information about Ava Pennington, please see: www.avawrites.com.

Pennington offered the group some thought-provoking challenges about being a good steward of one’s time. 1. As commanded, one should Love God, prioritizing time spent in prayer, worship and fellowship. 2. Love thy Neighbor, as in the book of Matthew 11:28-29, making time for opportunities to minister. 3. We should enjoy the Rest God gives us. This does not mean take time for a nap, but rather it is an inner peace or rest in the midst of activity. God calls us to be active in His business, not our “busy-ness.” 4. Work: as mentioned in Ecclesiastes 11:6, success IS a blessing and a gift from God that does accompany hard work, but the right kind of work.

Pennington summed up her presentation with three tips to help us be good stewards of our time:

A. Analyze how you spend your time.

B. Do, delegate and defer (this is not only the “touch the mail only once” idea, but also applies to e-mail).

C. Interruptions: tired of co-workers interrupting? Ask them to help you with a task you're

working on!

To conclude her talk, Pennington offered a moving poem written by Murray Middle School teacher, Carol Forbes, entitled, “Too Busy” and shared, “It is not MY time, we are called to be stewards of the time God gives us.”

Please do not miss another inspirational, educational, and motivational opportunity…consider joining us for the next Christian Business Fellowship of Martin County Luncheon on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 11:30am in the Elliott Room of the Ramada Inn on U.S. Hwy One in Stuart. The featured speaker will be Keith Pesce (Dynamic Human Behavior Solutions) "Understanding Yourself and Others: Solving the Mystery of Motivation." With over 25 years of experience in the corporate training, ministry, and education fields, Pesce has learned that as much as 85% of success in any field is directly related to effective people skills. Pesce's varied work experience has enabled him to gain a unique perspective that can help your organization become much more effective with people. It is our understanding that is presentation is indeed very inspirational (and entertaining!). Please make your reservation early, there will be limited seating. Integrity of a Leader…..another educational opportunity!

Stuart, FL – On Thursday, March 19, 2009, a group of over 40 local business men and women were afforded a rare treat. The group enjoyed a motivational, inspirational, and thought-provoking message, “The Functions of a Christian Leader in the Marketplace.” Dr. Leslie Schneider, business trainer from Tallmadge, Ohio brought a condensed version of her teaching series that has been presented to corporate, non-profit, and Church leaders all over the world. Dr. Schneider spoke of the responsibility and authority that team leaders must be accountable for in the current economic climate. Moreover, that leadership consists of planning, organizing, staffing, action, controlling and people. Dr. Schneider’s message included biblical examples of integrity-driven leadership that can be applied to your business or organization that will prove both fruitful and profitable, even amidst challenging times.

In addition, Dr. Schneider conveyed that some business leaders consider, mistakenly, that the business behavior must be judged only in terms of economical criteria; and that the Christian and moral traditions belong to a separate world. The member’s of the Christian Business Fellowship of Martin County learned how God’s principles of leadership would propel them to be a great influence in the marketplace to make an impact. All of these points were well taken by the dozens of Christian men and women of the local business community. During the last 8 years of his career Fries served as Vice President of Quality, Vice President of Major Projects, and Vice President of Power Generation Services. Major prepares professionals for "battle"!

STUART, FL - On Thursday, January 15, 2009 the members of the Christian Business Fellowship (CBF) of Martin County gathered for their monthly luncheon at the Ramada Inn on U.S. Highway One in Stuart. This month was the first meeting of the New Year, with many members ready to accept the challenges of doing business in Martin County in 2009.

As members individually seek guidance and encouragement in these tough economic times, the Board of Directors of the CBF have risen to the request to provide members with sound spiritual and professional motivation on a monthly basis. The first meeting of 2009 proved to be exactly what the members were seeking. The group welcomed newly retired Major Tom Harlow. The Major shared with the group “Murphy’s Law of Combat” for the integrity-driven business professional. With key points, “Get ready, stand up, hook up, sound off with equipment check, stand ready…..and JUMP!”

Tom and Lynnie Harlow have been married 31 years and have 2 children and two grand children. Tom began his career as a school teacher after getting his masters degree in `West Texas. Three years later he joined the United States Army, where they spent the next 26 years. They have lived in Germany, while they traveled and prayed in many nations. Tom was the American liaison officer to the Israeli Defense Force while living in Israel from 2001-2004. He was used by God to make a tremendous impact in a very key time for Israel. Upon leaving Israel, Tom was transferred to the National Ground Intelligence Center. During that time, he served in Iraq for 8 months as the head of Task Force TROY, which tracked and apprehended insurgents. Upon his return, Tom served in the Pentagon in the war and strategy room. He has high level clearance, which gave him the ability to pray over things that most people never know about. The Lord spoke clearly to Tom and Lynnie shortly after 2008 began, to step out of the army and move towards full time ministry. They have their own itinerate speaking ministry called “His Shofar Ministries”. They are also on staff as Executive Directors of the Stuart Open Heavens Centers.

The Miracle on 10th Street that brought the Community together!

STUART, FL - On Saturday, December 22, 2008, beginning at 10:00 a.m. the Martin County Chapter of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) brought Christmas a little early to the children and families of the neighborhood surrounding the 10th Street Recreation Center in Stuart, Florida. With the cooperation of the Christian Business Fellowship (CBF) of Martin County, and the Martin County Fire Fighter’s Union, over 400 toys (donations exceeded $800.00) were distributed to hundreds of children.

The 3rd Annual Toy Drive was held in commemoration of Arnold Stanberry, former President of the Martin County Chapter of the NAACP. This year, the event was blessed by the assistance of the Martin County Fire Fighter’s Union and the Stuart Main Street Program.

At 9:30 am volunteers unloaded the trailer that had housed the 400 or so toys that were donated by the Christian Business Fellowship of Martin County, and paid for by members of such, and the Martin County Chapter of the NAACP, and the Martin County Fire Fighter’s Union. Volunteers from the NAACP, the Stuart Main Street Program, the Martin County Boy Scouts, and the CBF of Martin County and their families busily readied the Recreation Center to prepare for "Santa's" arrival.

The event began at 10:00 a.m. with the performance of the Hidden Oaks Middle School (HOMS) O.C.P.D. (Obsessive Compulsive Percussion Disorder) Drum Line, under the direction of Mr. Allen Gilbert, and made possible by the students and families that gave so generously of their time and talent the first Saturday morning of Winter Break. The drummers’ performance exceeded expectations once again, and much like the “Pied-Piper” resulted in the neighbors of the Recreation center coming out of their houses to find out what was going on in the neighborhood. Gilbert and the OCPD drummers then gave the younger children a very special opportunity to try on, and play with the drum circle. The first of many magical moments that would occur that morning.

The volunteers were just as excited as the children as all enjoyed a light breakfast, and prepared to hear the morning's speakers. John Demaree, Coordinator for the CBF of Martin County spoke on behalf of the Fellowship group, and expressed that they were grateful for this opportunity to become involved with such a meaningful event. Demaree thanked all of the volunteers from the Middle school and organizations that made the event possible. Demaree then introduced our very own, Rep. “Will” William Snyder, who addressed the young men and women in the audience with his popular speech, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” The message was very appropriate at this event, in that it highlighted the generosity of so very many individuals that made this event possible, and challenged the children to be inspired by the receipt of so much more than Christmas gifts that morning.

Following Snyder, the audience was afforded a rare treat as Gloretta H. Hall, Attorney, addressed the children in the group with an extremely inspirational message of hope and perseverance. Ms. Hall, is a life member of the NAACP, and is a Partner at the Gary, Williams, Parenti, Finney, Lewis, McManus, Watson & Sperando, P.L. firm in Stuart.

Following Ms. Hall, was Pastor Darrell Orman, from First Baptist Church in Stuart, shared an exceptionally educational message of the meaning of Christmas with the children. His message included interacting with the children and concluded with a demonstration illustrating the gifts that were presented to Baby Jesus by the Wise Men, and perhaps why wise men and women of today still seek Him. It will not be too soon that all in attendance will forget this wonderful example!

Each child was presented an opportunity to sit with Santa, as they left Santa's lap, your heart could not be more full; seeing the joy on so many little faces! Santa's elves [helped out by the Martin County NAACP and the Christian Business Fellowship of Martin County] each child was given a gift! Grins abounded! The miracle in honor of the late Arnold Stanberry was the joy that flooded the 10th Street Recreation Center!

Our special thanks to; the Martin County Fire Fighter’s Union, and Mr. Todd Tucker, the City of Stuart Parks and Recreation Department, Vicki Davis, Supervisor of Elections and Mike Leach from Stuart Rubber Stamp and Sign Co. Inc., and Barbara Dance Garber and the Open Armoire Consignment Boutique, for helping us collect and distribute the gifts. Jeannie Ferrara, volunteer Public Relations for CBF; and Dick Hall from Out2martincounty.com, for publicity and photography. Tony and Kristina Hester from TNT Realty, and the Martin County Boy Scouts; for assisting. Further thanks to Florida House of Representatives, Representative William D. Snyder [District 82] Gloretta Hall, Claudius Taylor, and the Stuart Main Street Program, and the many volunteers that helped present, distribute, and clean up. Pastor Jerry Gore, and the Martin County NAACP promotes "Unity in the Community" and encourages you to get involved to help us proactively effect our community with events such as this, or to become a Mentor.

Furthermore, he spent next 10 years in the Air Force as flight surgeon, and retired as Lieutenant Colonel.

Dr. Eckersley spoke about biology, creation science, and the changes in society and even theology that have been the result of humanistic education. Eckersley referred to Ephesians, Chapter 5, verses 15 and 16 to further his point.

Following Dr. Eckerley’s talk, the group moved toward discussing the upcoming event that they assist the Martin County Chapter of the N.A.A.C.P. with, “A Miracle on 10th Street.”

The Christian Business Fellowship of Martin County Reassured!

Stuart, FL – On Thursday, October 16, 2008, the members of the Christian Business Fellowship of Martin County were afforded the rare opportunity to be encouraged by our State leadership. The group was introduced to State Representative William “Will” Snyder (R.) by Mr. Ted Campo; one of the group's founders, reminding each in attendance, that despite current economic conditions:

As A Man Thinks

Today I will think like a dynamic servant of God, because I am what I think.

I am not always what I think I am; I am what I think.

I am not what I eat; I am what I think.

Clothes do not make the man; thinking makes the man.

Therefore, I will keep my thought processes active an open to God.

God did not call me to a life of failure; but to a life of success. This being so, I cannot fail as long as I do His will, allowing Him to work in and through me, motivating every thought.

Because my God is a big God, I will think big with confidence, knowing my thoughts can never be bigger than my God. Today I will think like the apostle Paul when he said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Phil. 4:13 (Barrington, P. (1982) The Christian Life New Testament: Master Outlines and Study Notes. Thomas Nelson Publishers)

State Representative William “Will” Snyder (R.) took time out from his insanely hectic schedule to be the guest speaker for the Christian Business Fellowship of Martin County's monthly luncheon. Rep. Snyder honored his commitment to the group to offer words of encouragement, and reminded them that despite current headlines of the economic challenges we are facing as a nation (and as a community), and amidst fear of the lack of integrity in our leadership, there are still some politicians that take their position as an “employee of the people” very seriously.

Rep. Snyder spoke eloquently, and touched on three (3) major issues, humility, honesty, and keeping your commitments. “If you tell someone that you believe in Biblical values, act like it!”, says Snyder. With this being the focus of his personal style of leadership, Rep. Snyder has successfully represented parts of Martin, St. Lucie, and Palm Beach Counties in District 82 for two (2) years. Furthermore, Rep. Snyder shared with the group some of his experiences in Law Enforcement, where he served as a former Major and Director of Law Enforcement for the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. After serving the public for more than 33 years in law enforcement, Rep. Snyder retired from the Sheriff’s Office in 2006 to run for the Florida House of Representatives. In the Legislature, Rep. Snyder is the Vice Chair of the Committee on Homeland Security & Public Safety, and also sits on the Safety & Security Council, Committee on Energy, Committee on Utilities and Telecommunications, and Select Committee to Protect Personal Information. During the 2008 Legislative Session, Rep. Snyder passed five (5) “victim” bills (not “lobbyist bills”) through the House of Representatives and the Senate, which have been signed into law by Governor Crist.

Moreover, Rep. Snyder joined the group in offering prayers and support to all of the local and national politicians currently under personal scrutiny regarding ethics; reminding each that, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” Proverbs 11:1-3. Moreover, that in these troubling economic times that test Faith, leadership, economic stability, and the core of our society, there are leaders (a rare few) in Washington that understand, “if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.” Romans 12:7-9 (in Context).

The Christian Business Fellowship of Martin County is composed of men and women in business, seeking fellowship, encouragement and education into successful Bible-based business practices that can make a real difference in our community. The group looks forward to the meeting, Thursday, November 20th, 2008, where the featured speaker will be: Dr. John Eckersley, Stuart

Dermatologist since 1972. Born Portland , Maine, raised in Philadelphia area. Eckersley graduated with B.A. in Biology Ursanus College. M. D. from Temple Medical Center. Eckersley spent next 10 years in the Air Force as flight surgeon, retired as Lieutenant Colonel. His topic will be, "What is today's most prevalent disease? How do we treat it?" We look forward to seeing Dr. Eckersely, for more information about the Christian Business Fellowship, please see: http://cbfmartincounty.livejournal.com/
